Hawaii Photo Trip - Part 1

In November, I traveled to Oahu with two model friends Fox Martin & Keely Madison for a photo shoot trip. I have worked these two for a couple years now and I have been to Hawaii a couple times. In 2014, I stayed on the North Shore for the summer. In the last two years I have been missing the island and said the next time I went I wanted to do a photo shoot trip. I knew a bunch of good locations to shoot at.

Thursday Nov 3rd,

I flew out of Dulles airport, and was to meet Fox & Keely at LAX and take the same flight to Honolulu.

I met Fox at LAX, Keely had missed her flight and caught the next flight out.  I hurt my back a few days before the trip and the long flight didnt help. Ill try not to mention my back too much, but it definitely affected my trip.

Fox started smiling as soon we got outside. Keely's flight was only  half an hour difference so we were able to pick up the rental car and by that time she had landed.

After picking up the keys to the condo we stopped at the Foodland near Sharks Cove, We saw Hello Kitty Spam Masubi.

The girls were taken back by the prices, But still had love for Hello Kitty SPAM. We went back to the condo at Turtle Bay  and explored the resort before turning in.

Friday morning I drove down to Honolulu to pick up some gear I had rented from Hawaii Camera https://www.hawaiicamera.com. I picked up a reflector, a 70-200 lens, and a 100-400 lens. Very good camera shop with reasonable prices. For our first day of shooting, We took it pretty easy and went to Haliewa and had lunch and explored the North Shore.

After Haliewa, we stopped over at the Sugar Mill in Wailua. I have no idea what this is, but it looked interesting.

Keely spotted this location at the Sugar Mill. Very nice contract with color of the chairs.

While Keely got ready for our sunset shoot, Fox and I did a shoot by the pool. Fox did an amazing job. We had the pool to ourselves and got to try some different shots. We had to shoot around the sun. The sun was very intense so we shot as much as we could when the sun was behind the clouds.

One of the main reasons for this trip was to try differents types of photography that I normally dont get to try. I do most of my work in the studio in a controlled environment. One of the shots that we never quite got right was the pool shower shot. Fox looked great, but the sun was very intense so she could only face away from the sun, and the viewpoint I had, had pool cleaning equipment. The first day of shooting I made a ton of mistakes, but I learned from them over the week.

overall this isnt a bad shot, Fox looks great, but I would have liked to have had a flash with me so I could add a fill light to her and I would have liked to blur out the background more. I didnt have the right lens with me.  To be continued...,
